Association Receives Funds to Hire Biological Consultant

When the Southern Arizona Home Builders Association needed financial support to hire a biological consulting firm to analyze and contest information from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service on designating 1.2 million acres of land as critical habitat for the endangered pygmy owl, it came to NAHB and received the money it needed.

The Southern Arizona builders contend that the designation — which would significantly reduce the amount of land that can be developed for housing in the region — is based on faulty science.

The association received support from NAHB’s State & Local Issues Fund, which was created in 1996 to help state and local associations address nationally significant, precedent-setting legislative, regulatory or ballot challenges.
