CD-ROM Puts NAHB Member at the Head of the Class

When Lawrence DeMoss of Weyerhaueser Realty Investors needed some help on preparing a Career Day presentation for his son’s seventh grade classmates, he called NAHB’s Director of Public Relations and was glad he did.

DeMoss, a member of the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association, was sent overnight a copy of NAHB’s international award winning “Building Homes of Our Own.” Included was a 'cheat sheet' to help presenters. The CD-ROM game engages middle school students in decision making throughout the entire home building process — from site selection to final sale of the home.

“I was up against some pretty stiff competition,” Lawrence said, including an FBI agent, an F15 fighter pilot and even a Washington Redskin — to say nothing of the guy from NASA in the classroom next door who brought along some simulation equipment.

But the NAHB material was so good, he says, that the kids had a great time.

“I was able to walk them through so they could make choices” about plans and site selection, and he was even able to throw in a little financing information. “It was great. The kids loved it.”

One free copy of the CD-ROM is available to NAHB members and educators at HomesOfOurOwn.org, or click here.
