NCHI Gains Higher Profile With Student Chapters
The National Council of the Housing Industry (NCHI), the Supplier 100 of NAHB, has been working to support the efforts of young candidates for careers in the housing industry who have joined the NAHB Student Chapters.
Taking over the sponsorship of the Outstanding Student Chapter Awards, NCHI significantly increased cash awards for this year’s prizes and spurred greater participation in the competition by a wide margin.
Lyle Hunnicutt, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Homes Builders Institute and immediate past corporate co-chairman of NCHI, presented the awards in a ceremony attended by more than 1,000 students, faculty and NAHB members during the International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas.
The award is presented to schools in recognition of their efforts to promote the housing industry through networking, community service, campus activities and joint initiatives with local home builders associations.
In a second initiative, NCHI members are advertising in the pages of the Building Careers Job Bank, HBI’s and NAHB’s Web site for employers and seekers of craft, professional and technical jobs in housing.
Although the Job Bank was originally created to help Student Chapter members find jobs with members of NAHB, Hunnicutt said “it promises to become the housing industry’s home page for job seekers and employers alike.”
