IBS to Show Time, Cost, Energy-Efficiency Benefits of Panelized Building Systems

Learn about whole-house solutions and other cost- and energy-saving benefits using panelized building systems and technolgies at IBS.

The Panelized Home Building Council, part of the NAHB’s Building Systems Councils, is hosting several events and educational opportunities at the 2012 NAHB International Builders’ Show explaining how panelized homes and technologies can help builders reduce time on the  job site, decrease costs, increase quality and build a smarter, greener house.

The events and courses include:

Monday, Feb. 6

Friday, Feb. 10

  • “Panelized Homes 101”
    10:00-11:30 a.m.
    West 304 F

    A primer on open wall panelized framing systems for residential and light commercial construction, the session covers advanced framing techniques, optimum value engineering and green-building benefits.

  • Meet the Panelized Home Experts
    11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
    BSC Hospitality Suite, West 304 A-B

    Immediately following the "Panelized Homes 101" course, session presenters and other panelized building systems professionals will network and answer questions. RSVP for this event at www.nahb.org/meetpanelizedhomeexperts.

Thursday, Feb. 9

  • “Energy Code Compliance Using Advanced Building Systems”
    8:00-9:30 a.m.
    West 304 F 

    The session provides an overview of building envelope changes in the energy codes; tips and techniques for improving air tightness to easily meet the air leakage requirements in the new code; and reducing the cost of meeting these stringent requirements by using structural insulated panels (SIPs), insulated concrete forms (ICFs) and other innovative building systems. 

Wednesday, Feb. 8, to Saturday, Feb. 11

    Visit the BSC’s booth to network with systems-built manufacturers and builders, view videos explaining how building systems technologies work and see award-winning projects on the BSC’s Awards Wall.

    Also, learn about Building Systems for Soldiers — the BSC’s partnership with Operation Finally Home — which is currently building a systems-built home for wounded Marine Staff Sgt. Vincent Gizzarelli, who served two tours in Iraq.

    And meet J.R. Martinez, the wounded Iraq War veteran and “Dancing With the Stars” sensation, to learn about his inspirational story of perseverance and the power of a positive attitude.
