Donald L. Pratt, owner and principal of Construction Education and Consulting Service of Michigan in Auburn, has been named 2011 chairman of the board of trustees of the Home Builders Institute (HBI), the workforce development arm of NAHB.
Pratt’s first official duty will be to preside at HBI meetings during the NAHB Spring Board of Directors Meeting on May 16-20 at the Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, D.C.
In his role as chairman, Pratt will lead the board in the oversight of all Home Builders Institute activities — including chairing four board meetings and providing leadership in policy issues.
He will also work with senior staff to prioritize HBI goals for the coming year.
Pratt has spent more than 30 years in the residential construction industry as an active home builder, construction consultant, arbitrator and educator.
An avid supporter of industry education, he holds the Certified Graduate Builder (CGB), Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR), Certified Green Professional (CGP) and Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist (CAPS) designations.
He also instructs NAHB University of Housing courses, and teaches Pre-Licensure Education in Michigan.
The former chairman of the board of the NAHB Research Center, Pratt is also chairman of the Consensus Committee updating the National Green Building Standard for 2012.
Pratt is also a registered code official and member of the International Code Council Foundation, and he has served three Michigan governors as chairman of Michigan’s Construction Code Commission.
