NAHB will celebrate its own “Green Day” on Thursday, Jan. 13, during the NAHB International Builders’ Show (IBS) in Orlando.
This is the fourth consecutive year in which NAHB is celebrating Green Day during IBS. Green-related activities this year include a showcase of the Solar Decathlon, tips and ideas from the winners of the Energy Value Housing Awards, multiple press conferences on green building policies and products and numerous educational sessions on green building.
The sponsors of IBS Green Day 2011 are Marvin Windows and Doors, the Kohler Company and the America's Natural Gas Industry.
“You’ll know the emphasis of the day is green when you see all of the NAHB staff wearing their Green Day golf shirts,” said NAHB CEO Jerry Howard. “Green Day during IBS allos us to showcase the many ways that the home building industry is contributing to energy and resource efficiency.”
Among the many interesting events marking the celebration of IBS Green Day 2011 is an exhibition of models of the U.S. Department of Energy’s 2011 Solar Decathlon Homes. The Solar Decathlon is an biennial competition in Washington, D.C., featuring teams from colleges and universities around the world that seek to design and build the most energy-efficient homes.
The day’s events will also include an educational session showcasing the winners of the Energy Value Housing Awards. The 2010 award winners will discuss their innovative approaches to energy-efficient design and explain why energy efficiency is important to you, your business and your customers. “Home builders have embraced the green building movement, and our product suppliers have stepped up with amazing products that are delivering real value for builders and their customers,” Howard said. “I think that in a couple of decades we’re going to look back on this as a time when the residential construction industry really changed the game in terms of home energy use.”
