Home builders and remodelers who are interested in purchasing highly efficient windows at a reduced price can sign up for a June 22 webinar planned by the U.S. Department of Energy.
Sponsored by DOE’s Building Technologies Program, the “Cost-Effective Triple Pane (R-5) and Low-e Storm Windows” webinar takes place from 12:00 p.m.to 1:30 p.m. EST.
NAHB recently hosted DOE officials, window manufacturers and other program participants at a meeting to launch a volume-purchase program that the agency hopes will kick-start the market for the more energy-efficient windows, which are more expensive than other Energy Star-certified models.
For example, high-efficiency windows that now cost more than $400 apiece could be available for less than $250 under the program.
Speakers for the June 22 event include:
- Marc LaFrance, technology manager for building envelope and windows research and development, DOE
- Christian Kohler, the Windows & Daylighting Research Group at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory
- Graham Parker, senior staff engineer, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
- Jason Bogovich, manager, Energetics, Inc.
- Nils Petermann, project manager for the Efficient Windows Collaborative at the Alliance to Save Energy
- Terry Mapes, engineer, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
Speakers will offer an overview of DOE's window technology research; discuss how the volume purchase program can make these windows more affordable; explain design details, specifications and pricing; and provide purchasing information.
The webinar is also open to distributors, weatherization agencies and other groups interested in increasing the energy efficiency of their renovation and new building projects.
The session is free but participants must register in advance to get information on how to attend.
