2009 Safety Award Winners to Be Honored at Builders' Show

The winners of the fourth annual Safety Award For Excellence (SAFE) Awards will be honored at a ceremony on Wednesday, Jan. 20, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at the Las Vegas Hilton during the International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas.  

The SAFE awards recognize the achievements of builders and trade contractors who have developed and implemented high-quality construction safety programs, as well as those government officials who have made successful efforts to advance safety in the home building industry.

The 2009 SAFE Award winners and finalists are:

Single-Family Builder Safety Program of the Year

Less than 10 home starts per year
Winner: Jim Murphy and Associates — Santa Rosa, Calif.
Finalist: Poehimann Construction — Loveland, Colo.

11-100 home starts per year
Winner: Lifestyle Builders and Developers, Inc. — Midlothian, Va.

Greater than 500 home starts per year
Winner: Beazer Homes — Atlanta
Finalist: Taylor Morrison — Bradenton, Fla.

Specialty Trade Contractor Safety Program of the Year

More than 50 employees
Winner: Eagle Creek Siding — Olympia, Wash.
Finalist: Dave Jones Plumbing & Heating, Inc. — Madison, Wis.

Remodeler Safety Program of the Year 

Less than 50 employees
Winner: Tenhulzen Remodeling, Inc. — Redmond, Wash.
Finalist: Paulson’s Construction — Howell, Mich.

More than 50 employees
Winner: Alan Shintani, Inc — Waipahu, Hawaii

Innovative Safety Program/Idea of the Year

Winner: TWR Enterprises, Inc. — Corona, Calif.
Finalist: Pardee Homes — Los Angeles

Light Commercial Contractor Safety Program of the Year

Less than 50 employees
Winner: Kramer Enterprises, Inc. — Kalispell, Mont.
Finalist: Bayview Construction Corporation — Stuart, Fla.

NAHB Safety Professional of the Year

Winner: Tim Mc Dougal of Richmond American Homes — Denver
Finalist: Larry Feiert of Winchester Homes — Bethesda, Md.

Associate Member Safety Program of the Year

Winner: Kennecott Land — South Jordan, Utah

Federal and State Plan OSHA Official of the Year

Winner: John Able of Connecticut OSHA — Wethersfield, Conn.
Finalist: William Freeman of OSHA — Hartford, Conn.

Leadership in Construction Safety

Winner: Connie Wilhelm of the HBA of Central Arizona — Scottsdale, Ariz.

NAHB-Affiliated Association Safety Program of the Year

Winner: HBA of Hartford County — Rocky Hill, Conn.
