NAHB Recognizes Officials and HBAs for Pro-Housing Efforts

Launching the NAHB 2009 Legislative Conference, outstanding federal, state and local government efforts on behalf of the home building industry were recognized at the Government Affairs Recognition Awards breakfast on March 23.

Crystal awards adorned with the new NAHB logo were presented to home builders associations and elected officials from all levels of government who supported pro-housing initiatives over the past year.

Among those who were honored:

• Minnesota Rep. Al Juhnke and Sen.Thomas Bakk for their tireless and ultimately successful pursuit of a statewide building code
  
  
• County Commissioner Steve White from Gallatin County, Mont. for working with the Southwest Montana Building Industry Association to minimize impact fees, oppose fire sprinkler requirements and establish transferable development rights/county-wide zoning
  
  
• Snohomish County Executive Aaron Reardon for working with the Master Builders Association of King & Snohomish Counties in Washington to pass a joint resolution for a local economic stimulus plan focused on housing
  
  
• The Texas Association of Builders for working with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to enact a historic agreement under which the three will educate, inform and assist home builders in meeting federal and state storm water requirements
  
  
• The Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties for working to enact resolutions and code changes at the local level to help its members survive the adverse economic conditions facing the housing industry in the Puget Sound region
