Awards Honor Best in Residential Energy Efficiency

Attendees at next month’s International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas shouldn’t miss the chance to support the finalists when they receive the 2009 EnergyValue Housing Award (EVHA), which honors builders who voluntarily incorporate energy efficiency into all aspects of new home construction.

Gold, Silver, and Honorable Mention awards, in addition to the People’s Choice and Builder of the Year, will be announced at a banquet and awards celebration at the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel on Monday, Jan. 19. (There’s still time to cast a vote for the People’s Choice Award.)

Now in its 14th year, the EVHA is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Building America program, NAHB and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), and administered by the NAHB Research Center. The EVHA challenges builders to elevate standards for energy-efficient construction, provides educational opportunities for home builders and fosters the adoption of energy efficiency principles.

Finalists were selected from builders’ projects in three climate regions (cold, moderate and hot) and five categories (affordable, custom/demonstration, factory-built, multifamily and production).

The 2009 EVHA finalists are:

The awards presentation will feature a keynote address by Dominic Sims, chief operating officer of the International Code Council (ICC), who will share ICC’s vision, policies and initiatives for advancing green and energy-efficient construction.

A specialist in executive leadership, team development and organizational and change management, as its CEO Sims guided the consolidation of SBCCI into the ICC, prior to his position with ICC. As executive director of the Palm Beach County, Fla., Planning, Zoning and Building Department, he oversaw development, construction, licensing and compliance activities for one of the most rapidly growing areas in the U.S. A past member of the SBCCI Board of Directors, Sims has held numerous elected and appointed positions at the federal, state and local levels.

Banquet tickets are $60 (save $10 if purchased prior to Dec. 22) and may be purchased online or by phone at 800-638-8556 x6228.

The panel of judges for the 2009 EnergyValue Housing Award includes:

Information about Gold, Silver, Corporate and Preferred Sponsorships for the awards ceremony and banquet is available from EVHA program coordinator Debra Sagan, CGP, or from the NAHB Research Center by calling 800-638-8556.
