DuPont Announces Advances in Corian

New advances in Corian were announced by DuPont at the International Builders’ Show in Orlando in February.

Demonstrating its commitment to sustainable solutions, DuPont introduced its Terra Collection, which is certified by Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) and meets international standards for claims for pre-consumer recycled material.

The collection’s 25 colors include an array of warm neutrals and jewel tones, and are ideal for creating contemporary, on-trend design possibilities for the home.

Seven of the colors are certified to have 13% pre-consumer recycled materials and 18 have 6% recycled content. To qualify as recycled content, waste materials — such as imperfect sheets — are ground as particulates and used as material to create recycled content.

“We have always used pre-consumer waste as part of our standard line in an effort to reduce waste, taking an environmentally responsible approach to the manufacturing process,” said Tom Schuler, vice president and general manager for DuPont Building Innovations. “Now with the SCS certification, we can proudly promote these practices and products as another positive step in our sustainability journey.”

Like all Corian colors from DuPont, these low-VOC emitting, nonporous, long-lasting surfaces are Greenguard Indoor Air Quality Certified and also carry Greenguard for Children and Schools Certification.

Other characteristics of Corian that contribute to sustainable design include its durability and ability to be easily renewed and repaired to maintain its original appearance and extend its life cycle. It can be removed, re-cut and reinstalled as a new design or seamlessly reworked into new applications.

Corian is nonporous and with proper cleaning does not promote the growth of mold, mildew or bacteria, and carries a 10-year residential installed transferable limited warranty from DuPont.

Translucent Illumination Series

DuPont also announced that it has introduced four new Corian colors inspired by one of today’s hottest new building materials — light. The colors are Mint Ice, Strawberry Ice, Lime Ice and Glacier Ice.

In kitchen countertops, wet bars and luxury baths, when lit from behind, the Illumination Series’ colorful, radiant aesthetics enable builders to create stunning, yet unexpectedly imaginative sensorial environments. The colors allow up to three times as much light to pass through than other colors, combining the many dimensions of light with a material that can be formed, bent, textured and cut.

“Translucency is the latest introduction from the company that sets the standard for surfacing materials and designs that will please everyone from minimalists to traditionalists,” said Alan Hubbell, national marketing manager, Residential New Construction — Dupont Surfaces.
