Home Depot Honors 'Hispanic Contractor of the Year'

At last month’s International Builders’ Show in Orlando, The Home Depot presented Chicago-based Bronzeville Construction with its 2008 Hispanic Contractor of the Year Award honoring the company’s leadership and entrepreneurial qualities.
Part of an ongoing national initiative by The Home Depot to provide products, services and materials for its Hispanic professional customers, the award was established in 2006.
Bronzeville Construction was recognized for helping to preserve and rejuvenate properties that are important to the Chicago community. The company is an “integrative” business that has quality and creative control over its subcontractors; Bronzeville subs out work to its own companies.
Bronzeville was formed by the merger of two successful companies, Ansco Construction and Admar Construction. The companies began working together on Opera Lofts, a unique renovation in Chicago that is an adaptive reuse of a historic warehouse that formerly belonged to the Lyric Opera of Chicago.
Residents of the 190,000 square-foot building enjoy green features such as a 7,000 square-foot green roof and energy-efficient appliances. All of the building’s original brickwork was used during the restoration.
Among its Hispanic initiatives, The Home Depot has rolled out an award-winning Hispanic color palette named Colores Origenes into all of its U.S. stores; has sponsored nationwide bilingual safety fairs; and has sponsored the Mexican National Futbol team and Major League Soccer.
The Home Depot has bilingual in-store signage and packaging and has advertised on Spanish language television and radio and offered Spanish language circulars in select markets both in-store and in Hispanic publications.
The store has emerging markets managers dedicated to Hispanic professional contractor accounts in Miami, Texas, Southern California, Chicago and Atlanta.
Previous recipients of the Hispanic Contractor of the Year Award include PV Roofing, Houston; Cano Properties, Chicago; Puig Development Group, Hialeah, Fla.; and United Development Group, San Diego.
Headquartered in Atlanta, Home Depot is a member of the National Council of the Housing Industry — The Leading Suppliers of NAHB.
