Designation for Green Building Professionals Debuts at IBS

The new Certified Green Professional (CGP) designation that teaches builders, remodelers and other industry professionals techniques for incorporating green building principles into homes without driving up the cost of construction debuted on “Green Day,” Feb. 14, at the International Builders’ Show in Orlando.

The NAHB University of Housing courses required for the designation — “Green Building for Building Professionals” and “Business Management for Building Professionals” — provide a background in green building methods, as well as tools to reach consumers and incorporate green building into an existing business.

Both CGP courses were offered at IBS as part of the pre-show education schedule. More than 100 building professionals took the courses.

In addition to coursework, CGP applicants must have a minimum of two years of building industry experience and must adhere to the CGP Code of Ethics.

The first class of CGP graduates will be honored at the 2008 National Green Building Conference in New Orleans in May. Both required courses for the CGP will also be offered at the conference.

For more information about the Certified Green Professional designation, visit www.nahb.org/CGPinfo, e-mail CGPinfo@nahb.com or call The Professional Designation Help Line at 800-368-5242 x8154.
