Faulk Recognized for Work with NAHB Student Members

Bill Faulk, senior estimating consultant manager with the CIS Consulting Group, has been selected to receive the NAHB Student Chapters’ Distinguished Service Award.

Faulk joined the NAHB Student Chapters Advisory Board in 2002 as a representative from Centex Homes. As chairman of the advisory board for the Pennsylvania College of Technology's residential construction program, he had worked closely with students to advise them of career opportunities with Centex and soon put those skills to work in overseeing and promoting the Two-Year College and Secondary School divisions in the Student Chapters’ Residential Construction Competitions.

When Faulk took over as a subcommittee chairman for the competitions, high schools were fielding only three teams annually. Efforts to bolster the Secondary School Division were largely unsuccessful because high schools viewed the competitions as overly ambitious for their students. Faulk turned the situation around when he showed educators that the experience of working on a team to solve a challenge can greatly enhance student education in the construction field.

Seven high school teams participated in the 2007 competitions as a result of Faulk’s efforts, and that number will grow to 12 in the 2008 competitions that begin on Feb. 13 in Orlando. Faulk has worked with teams in both divisions to prepare them for victory.

Last year, the majority of the 1,500 NAHB student members attending the International Builders’ Show participated in the competitions — either as team members or supporters of their classmates and friends.

“I truly enjoy working with students,” said Faulk. “Every year, they bring a new challenge and it’s fun and exciting to try and keep up. To be honored for doing what I love is amazing and I’m grateful to the advisory board, the Home Builders Institute and Student Chapters Director Page Browning.”

A graduate of Old Dominion University, Faulk has been working in the home building industry for more than 30 years.
