HGTV Giving Away $2 Million Dream Home in Florida Keys
 In its popular annual sweepstakes, HGTV is giving away the 12th in a series of luxury Dream Homes.
Built in The Shore at Islamorada in the Florida Keys, the 2008 house is hurricane-resistant and worth more than $2 million. Chosen in a random drawing, the winner will be announced live on HGTV on March 16 at 9:00 p.m. ET.
Rick Wissmach, AIA, of Dawson-Wissmach in Savannah, Ga., designed the house to maximize the views of the ocean from almost every room — including the shower in the master bath.
To take advantage of sunshine and ocean breezes, the home has three seaside outdoor rooms: two porches and a patio. It also has built-in protection from heat, rain and wind, including a solid concrete shell on the first level, cement siding on the second and third levels and a metal roof with deep overhangs to shade the expansive windows.
“This house is built to stay,” says project manager Mike Uhre. “Everything is connected with steel and concrete.” It’s all anchored to piles that are six feet in diameter and driven seven feet into the ground.
Other features of the house include an open floor plan, a “vertical spa” shower, a tankless water heater, an underground propane tank and a standby generator. The landscaping includes extensive use of eco-friendly permeable pavers that provide additional patio space.
