Bob Moomey, Spokesperson Trainer for NAHB, Dies at 71

Bob Moomey | Bob Moomey, principal of Bob Moomey Communications and a consultant for NAHB’s Spokesperson Training program for more than 30 years, died in his Westlake Village, Calif. home on Jan. 10. He was 71.
In 1973 Moomey, along with a team of journalism professionals and Northwestern University professors, developed media training as it is practiced in the modern business world. He specialized in message development, presentation skills, media communication and crisis management skills. Moomey trained executives from more than 200 of the U.S. Fortune 500 companies and more than 100 countries during his career.
Moomey was part of a group that put together NAHB’s first media spokesperson training program. He became a regular trainer for NAHB in 1974 during a housing crisis. Since then, he has coached more than 15,000 NAHB builder and associate members, helping them become more effective in media interviews, speeches and other communications.
“When I took on a leadership position with NAHB, I knew it would come with the responsibility of becoming a spokesperson for the association,” said Bob Jones, NAHB vice president and secretary of NAHB. “Bob was instrumental in helping to develop my public speaking skills, for which I am grateful. I first met Bob as a trainer for NAHB and over the years I was fortunate enough to be able to call him a friend. He will be greatly missed.”

Before his work as a consultant, Moomey was a manager with the Westinghouse Broadcasting Company. From 1980 to 1984 he hosted On The Homefront, a Mutual Network radio program heard on more than 300 stations nationwide, where he discussed all aspects of real estate sales and housing issues in general with industry leaders.
Moomey is survived by his daughter, Kirsten and his grandson, Jonathon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally.
