IBS Educational Sessions Focus on Quality in Housing

During the upcoming 2008 International Builders’ Show, the NAHB Research Center will host four educational sessions for builders and trades focused on improving profitability and customer satisfaction through quality assurance. The presentations are related to the Research Center’s National Housing Quality (NHQ) Program, which offers builders, trade contractors and manufacturers across the nation new opportunities to learn more about quality assurance in home building.

Wednesday, Feb. 12

  • Quality Idols: Best Practices of National Housing Quality Award Winners
    8:00-9:30 a.m.
    Orange County Convention Center, West 311 E-H

    The National Housing Quality (NHQ) Award is the highest recognition for quality achievement in home building. Hear from some of the nation’s top small- and medium- volume builders about how their award-winning practices increase profitability and reduce callbacks. Speakers  are: Frank Alexander, NAHB Research Center; Jim Moss, Barratt American, Inc.; Scott Buescher, Mercedes Homes; Alan Parrow, Pringle Development; and Stuart McDonald, Mercedes Homes.


Thursday, Feb. 14

  • Effective Site Inspections and Follow-up
    8:00-9:30 a.m.
    Orange County Convention Center, South 330 E-H

    Three NHQ-certified builders will share their inspection forms and follow-up procedures. Successfully identifying and correcting problems that occur during typical new home construction is a step toward building it right the first time, every time. Speakers are: Don Carr, NAHB Research Center; Steve Easley, Easley & Associates; Michael Carver, KB Home; and Dean Potter, K. Hovnanian Companies.


Friday, Feb. 15

  • Profitability Through Quality Management
    3:30-5:00 p.m.
    Orange County Convention Center, South 320 E-H

    Now that you've started a quality management system, how do you know if it's working? What should you do next? Get some real life answers to these questions, a roadmap to achieve maturity and the keys to sustain management excellence. Speakers are: Denis Leonard, Veridian Homes; and Serge Ogranovitch, The Potomack Group, LLC.


Saturday, Feb. 16

  • Customer Satisfaction Secrets of Top National Performers
    8:00-9:30 a.m.

    Hear how successful, high-ranking builders get increased customer satisfaction and reduced warranty costs through documented quality assurance systems. As shown through their customer satisfaction rankings, building it right the first time pays off. Speakers are: Frank Alexander, NAHB Research Center; Joe Donahoe, Centex Homes; Scott Himelhoch, Pulte Homes; and Paul Cardis, NRS Corporation.
