Penn State Engineering Student Named Most Recent Glunt Scholar

Brian Wolfgang, a senior civil engineering student at Penn State who is also pursuing a housing certificate, is this year’s recipient of the J. Roger Glunt/National Housing Endowment Undergraduate Scholarship. Wolfgang was awarded $2,000.

The scholarship, named for the 1993 NAHB president and former endowment chairman, provides financial assistance to undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Engineering at Penn State who have a special interest in housing.

Wolfgang is involved in several research projects at the university’s civil and environmental engineering department, its pavement research group and at the Pennsylvania Housing Research Center.

He maintains a 3.92 grade point average, has been consistently named to the Dean’s List and will continue his education by earning a master’s degree in civil or architectural engineering with a focus on resident construction. Wolfgang plans to pursue a career in residential design or construction management.

“While it is difficult to determine what my future holds, I am certain that I need to be a part of the residential construction industry,” Wolfgang said. “The skills I have obtained at Penn State will allow me to have significant success in this industry.”

“Brian Wolfgang has assembled a very impressive academic record in his housing studies at Penn State. Brian has also indicated his interests in pursuing graduate-level housing studies prior to commencing his career in residential construction,” said Glunt. “He is exceptionally well qualified to receive the Glunt/ NHE undergraduate scholarship for 2007.”

Glunt Fellow Travel Award Recipients

Penn State students Maral Amini and Tanya Myers were named the recipients of the National Housing Endowment/J. Roger Glunt Fellow Travel Awards. Both students, who are pursuing careers in residential construction, will receive a $1,250 travel stipend so they can attend the 2008 International Builders’ Show in Orlando in February.

Other Endowment Scholarships

The National Housing Endowment, the philanthropic arm of NAHB, administers 12 scholarship programs and annually awards more than $400,000 to students pursuing careers in residential construction and related fields.
