Endowment Gives $32,000 to Virginia Tech Victims Memorial
 The National Housing Endowment, the philanthropic arm of NAHB, recently awarded a $32,000 grant — $1,000 in memory of each of the 27 students and five faculty members killed during the April 16 shooting rampage at the Virginia Tech campus in Blacksburg — to the Home Builders Association of Virginia (HBAV) Educational Foundation scholarship memorial to the shooting victims.
Shortly after the tragedy, the HBAV Educational Foundation established a permanent endowed scholarship for students enrolled in the building construction program at the university’s Myers-Lawson School of Construction. The HBAV foundation is matching, dollar for dollar, contributions made by HBAV members up to $50,000 total.
The endowment’s grant will provide a full scholarship for one student each year that the student is enrolled at the Myers-Lawson school of construction.
“The National Housing Endowment is proud to remember and honor this tragedy in such a positive and lasting way,” said Gary Garczynski, endowment chair and 2002 NAHB president. “The grant enables the endowment to continue supporting our mission to provide a well-trained workforce to our industry while also serving as a permanent memorial to honor the students and faculty who lost their lives in this tragic event.”
The HBAV Educational Foundation was established in 1989 to provide aid to deserving students enrolled in housing-related studies at Virginia’s colleges and universities and to help create the future leaders of Virginia’s housing industry.
