Endowment Gives NAHB Grant to Video Solar Decathlon
 The National Housing Endowment, the philanthropic arm of NAHB, recently awarded the NAHB Production Group a $20,000 grant to video the 2007 Solar Decathlon. The production group will produce five 30-minute videos of Solar Decathlon events, with broadband components for Internet transmission.
The U.S. Department of Energy’s Solar Decathlon is a competition in which 20 college and university teams design, build and operate the most attractive and energy-efficient solar-powered house. The homes will be built on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 12-20.
The production group will follow the student teams through the creation of the homes, including the technological and engineering problems and solutions as well as the intense competition.
The completed videos will showcase the residential construction industry and can be used for the educational market in secondary or higher education or as a recruitment vehicle for home builders or other sectors of the building industry.

These solar decathletes truly are tomorrow’s builders, developers and engineers,” said Gary Garczynski, endowment chairman and 2002 NAHB president. “The endowment strives to improve the educational opportunities available to prospective members of the residential construction family and its related industries.”
The Solar Decathlon is sponsored by NAHB, the American Institute of Architects, BP and Sprint/Nextel.
