The stone masons, Dean Marsico and Derek Stearns, are called in to revamp the front step of a 1950s Cape Cod home in Cohasset, Mass. To restore the front entrance, they remove an old, weather-worn, cracking and shifting slate platform. In its place, they build up the new platform and set bluestone with cobble risers. Dean and Derek explain the proper way to demo the existing step, how to design a field pattern and how to set bluestone for treads and field. The two also take us to a quarry for a lesson on how to pick bluestone and cobbles, based on color, size and function.
