ACE Mentoring Program Offers Opportunities for Builders

Student Members Visit NAHB, Research Center

Eight NAHB Student Chapters members and two professors from the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore (UMES) visited the National Housing Center and the NAHB Research Center on April 20 to gain a further understanding of how the federation operates.

The students are enrolled in the school’s construction management and technology program.

Bob Mitchell, president of NAHB in 2000 and founder and CEO of Mitchell and Best, met with the delegation and encouraged the students to “utilize the benefits of your membership by becoming increasingly involved with your local home builders association.”

Representatives from the National Housing Endowment updated the students on the scholarships they offer in support of studies in majors related to home building.

At the Research Center, the group received an overview of the facility’s capabilities and ToolBase Services and toured the full-service testing laboratory.

“The entire visit was so beneficial to us and I wish we would have brought all of the students in our construction management program,” said professor Joseph Arumala.

UMES is the second NAHB Student Chapter to visit the Housing Center in the past year, and the University of Georgia Student Chapter will be the third when it arrives for a visit to NAHB’s national headquarters on June 21.

NAHB Student Chapters

Administered by the Home Builders Institute and funded by NAHB, corporate partners and student member dues, the NAHB Student Chapters program helps to enrich the educational experiences of more than 4,000 students enrolled in construction-related studies. High schools, vocational and technical schools, community colleges (two-year programs), universities (four-year programs) and Job Corps centers across the country have chapters.
