Kentucky Builders Train Latino Carpenters

In graduation ceremonies at the end of last month, the Home Builders Association of Northern Kentucky recognized nine new Latino carpenters for completing its 20-week training program.
This was the second class since the association started the program in March 2004, bringing the total number of graduates to 27.
“We are proud to be able to provide this opportunity for Latinos who have an interest in construction-related careers,” said Mike Kegley, the association’s president. “There is a tremendous amount of opportunities for Latinos to advance in our industry.”
The program is completely funded by the association’s Home Builders Care Assistance Fund, and several companies affiliated with the association have donated materials and tools for the course.
The association’s Evening Trades Program also offers training in electricity and HVAC. Job placement support is a part of the program.
The association has planned a trades training program for African Americans this fall.
