2005 National Wetlands Awards Nominations Due Jan. 15

Nominations for the 2005 National Wetlands Awards are now being accepted and must be postmarked by Jan.15. The awards honor individuals who have initiated programs and projects that protect the nation’s wetlands at the regional, state or local level.

The awards will be given in six categories:

  • Education and Outreach
  • Science Research
  • Conservation and Restoration
  • Landowner Stewardship
  • State, Tribal and Local Program Development
  • Wetland Community Leader

The awards program was begun in 1989. Past winners have included educators, scientists, land developers, conservationists, ranchers, politicians, planners, farmers, commercial fishermen and others.

The program is sponsored by the Environmental Law Institute (ELI), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, USDA Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Marine Fisheries Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Federal Highway Administration and Natural Resources Conservation Service.

To download the nomination form, visit the Environmental Law Institute Web site at www.eli.org/nwa/nwaprogram.htm.
