In tecHOMExpo™ Address, Perot to Discuss Increasing Profits Through Technology

Ross Perot, Jr., the president and CEO of Perot Systems, will give the keynote address at tecHOMExpo™ during the 2005 International Builders’ Show in Orlando, FL. He will discuss how to effectively use new technology in home building.

Perot Systems, a $1.5 billion global business technology firm based in Plano, TX, provides business consulting, business process outsourcing, applications and IT infrastructure services to companies in a variety of industries — including home building, engineering and construction — so they can become more efficient, competitive and profitable.

In his keynote address, “From Vision to Success: Applying Technology in Home Building,” Perot will discuss how to use technology-based, customized business processes to increase efficiencies, improve quality, build market strength and increase margins.

Perot has first-hand experience in the building industry. He is chairman of the Hillwood Development Corporation, a real estate development and investment firm. Two of Hillwood’s largest projects include AllianceTexas, a 15,000-acre development near Dallas, and Victory, a 70-acre development in Dallas that includes the American Airlines Center, home of the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars.

Perot is also a world record-holding aviator. In 1982, he completed the first helicopter flight around the world — traveling 26,000 miles in less than 30 days. His helicopter, The Spirit of Texas, is on display at the Smithsonian Institution’s Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.

NAHB Goes to New York to Promote Election-Year National Housing Agenda

As part of NAHB’s ongoing efforts during the current election cycle to ensure that housing is a top priority …

Housing Snapshot

Mortgage interest rates were down last week, largely because of ongoing questions about the strength of the nation's economy. Consumer confidence dropped and retail sales were up a sluggish 1.1% in August, which is usually the second strongest month of the year because of back-to-school expenditures. The jobs report, on the other hand, showed the economy starting to perk up from its summer doldrums. The Commerce Department reported that 144,000 jobs were added in August, about what the economy needs to accommodate population growth. The month's unemployment rate fell to 5.4%. The new week began on a healthy note, with oil prices falling. The cost of framing lumber dropped $6 to $467 per 1,000 board feet, Random Lengths reported. The price of 15/32-inch 3-ply southern (west-east) exterior sheathing was unchanged at $440 per 1,000 square feet, and oriented strand board was up $7 to $412.
