Doug Spohn
I am a sixth generation builder. I have built more than 4,000 homes, in all price ranges. I have been a developer of both residential and commercial projects and I am currently leading Atlanta into the revitalization of small cities within our metropolitan area. My community involvement has been extensive, including my current position as the chairman of a citizens advisory group that oversees a $780 million budget for community development.
I was president of the largest local HBA and president of our state HBA, and continue my involvement in these organizations to maintain a good sense of what is happening in our industry. In my 26-year involvement at NAHB, I have been a member of, and chaired, several committees as well as many special task forces. Most recently, I served on a nine-member working group to draft the current NAHB 2003/2004 Legislative and Regulatory Policy Handbook. In addition, I chaired the Land Development (2002) and Housing Finance (2001) Committees.
I am a trustee for my church, a father of four and the grandfather of five. My proudest legacy is my daughter, Cathy, who is following in my footsteps as a seventh-generation builder.
I pledge to the NAHB membership that I will work diligently to protect our industry so you can have your children be your legacy in your home building business.
