Nominees Announced for NAHB 2005 Vice President and Secretary

C. Kent Conine, NAHB Nominations Committee chairman and NAHB immediate past president, has announced that Sandra Dunn of Point Pleasant, WV, and Doug Spohn of Duluth, GA, have been certified by the Nominations Committee to seek the office of NAHB Vice President and Secretary for the year 2005.

Sandy Dunn

I’m a second-generation builder. Like you, I know what it takes to get the job done. For 34 years I have pulled permits and made payroll every week.

Strong Leadership:

• Local and State President
• Extensive committee involvement and chairmanships on local, state and
  national levels
National Rep (seven years)
National Vice President (four years)
• National Rep of the Year
• Senior Life Director

I’m a candidate for Vice President/Secretary of NAHB because I want to make a difference. I bring to the table a lot of energy and the ability to get the job done. I come from the grassroots. I’m interested in the issues. I want to hear from you about the problems you are facing. I’m convinced that if one listens, one can learn the problems and find the solutions. Over the coming months, I’ll be calling you to ask for your input, your support and your vote.

I am seeking the office of NAHB Secretary because I want to use my experience and leadership skills to serve NAHB as we face current and future challenges.

Doug Spohn

I am a sixth generation builder. I have built more than 4,000 homes, in all price ranges. I have been a developer of both residential and commercial projects and I am currently leading Atlanta into the revitalization of small cities within our metropolitan area. My community involvement has been extensive, including my current position as the chairman of a citizens advisory group that oversees a $780 million budget for community development.

I was president of the largest local HBA and president of our state HBA, and continue my involvement in these organizations to maintain a good sense of what is happening in our industry. In my 26-year involvement at NAHB, I have been a member of, and chaired, several committees as well as many special task forces. Most recently, I served on a nine-member working group to draft the current NAHB 2003/2004 Legislative and Regulatory Policy Handbook. In addition, I chaired the Land Development (2002) and Housing Finance (2001) Committees.

I am a trustee for my church, a father of four and the grandfather of five. My proudest legacy is my daughter, Cathy, who is following in my footsteps as a seventh-generation builder.

I pledge to the NAHB membership that I will work diligently to protect our industry so you can have your children be your legacy in your home building business.
