Prominent St. Louis Builder Robert Jones Dies

Robert E. Jones, a past president of his local building association, a builder who turned his family’s construction firm into one of the largest home builders in the St. Louis area and a senior life director at NAHB, died at his home in Chesterfield, MO. He was 76.

Before becoming its chairman and CEO, Jones was president of The Jones Co., which was founded by his father, from 1961 to 1989. Under his direction, the company's production rose to more than 17,000 homes; the company was eventually sold to Centex Homes.

Jones served as president of the Home Builders Association of Greater St. Louis in 1972. He was a member of the association’s Home Builders Charitable Foundation board of directors, Sensible Growth Committee, Transportation Committee and Federal Government Affairs Committee, among others.

Within the St. Louis community, Jones served on the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District board, the Missouri Highway and Transportation Commission and the St. Anthony’s Medical Center board of directors.

Nationally, in addition to being an NAHB life director, Jones was also a longtime member of the BUILD-PAC Capitol Club.

His first wife, Mary Jane Jones, died in 1999. He married Mikki Monger in 2000. A son, Tom Jones of Orlando, FL; a daughter, Elena Nicole Jones of Chesterfield; a brother, Jack Jones of Creve Coeur, MO; and three grandchildren also survive him.
