HBI’s Educational Resources in Home Building Continue to Grow

Under a publishing partnership between the Home Builder Institute’s (HBI) Residential Construction Academy and Thomson-Delmar Learning, textbooks and course materials for training in the construction trades continue to expand.

Educational institutions and industry training programs that use the materials are eligible for credentialing by HBI, the workforce development arm of NAHB.

“House Wiring” — the third entry in HBI’s Residential Construction Academy (RCA) Series — will be published next month.

The first two titles in the series — “Carpentry” and “Electrical Principles” — were released last November. Series materials are based on educational standards for residential construction developed by HBI and NAHB members.

Additions to the series slated for release next year will focus on plumbing, HVAC and facilities maintenance.

The HBI credential provides several benefits for educational programs and students, including:

  • Industry-developed standards that allow employers to evaluate potential employees
  • Opportunities for students and instructors to network with local home builders
  • A curriculum and resource tools that ensure consistency when they are taught by rotating faculty members
  • Student eligibility for a listing on the National Registry, an online database designed to match employees with potential employers.
  • The opportunity to post resumes on HBI’s and NAHB’s online Building Careers Job Bank.

In addition to the links above, further information on the RCA Series and the National Registery is available by e-mailing Steve Kramer.
