Private Contractor Opportunities at Cannon Air Force Base

Developers, home builders, property managers, remodelers, contractors, suppliers and lenders have an opportunity to participate in one of the largest government housing programs ever.

Over the next few years, the U.S. Armed Forces will be using private contractors to upgrade or replace 180,000 homes for service members and their families and to provide long-term management of these properties.

As part of this effort, the PSC Military Housing Corporation, a contractor for the U.S. Air Force, will host an industry forum in Clovis, NM, on April 15-16. The forum will address housing privatization efforts at Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico, where the government will convey 1,294 housing units and will lease the land for those homes for 50 years to a developer or development team.

The project will include demolition of 384 units, construction of 336 new units and the renovation of about 900 units, all within six years from the time the deal is closed.

In the meantime, an NAHB Military Housing Privatization Task Force continues to study the often formidable barriers that project teams face in getting into the bidding process.
