In this issue: NAHB Research Center Unveils 'Green Approved' Products ProgramGreen product manufacturers have a new tool to show how they fit in to the first-ever residential green building standard approved by the American National Standards Institute. The new NAHB Research Center “Green Approved” product seal of approval can be used by manufacturers to provide third-party evidence that their products meet the criteria for recognition in homes certified to the National Green Building Standard. “Green Approved” product manufacturers will have a certificate from the Research Center that identifies the specific sections of the standard where points for the product are available. These reports, available from a link on the new standard scoring tool at www.nahbgreen.org, are designed to facilitate the selection and specification of products as well as the approval of possible points by NAHBRC-accredited verifiers. Green Approved products will also be permitted links to the manufacturer’s page from the NAHBGreen website, and manufacturers will be able to use the “Green Approved” mark on promotional literature, company Web sites and similar materials. Research Center staff reviews “Green Approved” product applications and the required supporting third-party documentation, then determines approvable points by section as well as any applicable conditions of use for point eligibility. Products are shown on the manufacturers’ page based on a “first approved, first listed” priority. The annual listing fee is based on the number of practices listed for a product.
