E-mail Our Editor In this issue: Review Groups Study Pilot Progress, VerificationAs we get close to the end of our pilots, the NAHB National Green Building Program is beginning to take shape. Earlier this month, I joined the Builder and HBA Programs review groups as they discussed progress toward the Feb. 14 program launch. We met with staff members from NAHB and the NAHB Research Center to talk about the pilot sites — now two months into their tasks — the certification and verification process, the potential assimilation of existing programs — and more. It was a full day and a very productive one, too. We came away with a series of recommendations to discuss before all the choices are reviewed and eventually approved by the National Program Oversight Group. Because I am among those with this responsibility, I decided to spend the day not talking, but listening. It’s important that we all understand everyone’s concerns before we make our final programmatic decisions in the next several weeks. We talked about jurisdictional issues, how to pay for the program, the certification process, and how to build up a large corps of verifiers. The Builder and HBA groups had excellent suggestions and made recommendations based on their experience — which is exactly what we needed to hear. Now, the NAHB staff will take these recommendations to the High Production Builders Review Group and continue to learn from the experiences of the pilot sites as they prepare their report for our National Oversight Group. I look forward to hearing your ideas, as well, and encourage you to e-mail the editor with your thoughts. Please enjoy this holiday season and a have a happy, healthy New Year. — Bob Jones For more information or to contact us directly, please visit www.NAHB.org | ©2007, National Association of Home Builders |
