Local Program News

From reports of state and local green building programs in which our HBAs participate:

  • The HBA of Metro Harrisburg, Pa.,  is planning a Home Show from Feb. 23 through March 2 that will have an area dedicated to green building and the environment.

  • The Master Builders Association of Pierce County, Washington reports that its Built Green® program has secured the endorsements of the county and three more cities this year. The program partnered with Northwest Energy Star® to offer access to education and verifier resources to its members.  Right now, the program is  updating its homebuilder checklists to reflect ideas from the NAHB Model Green Home Building Guidelines and to keep up with regulatory and code changes since the checklist was first drafted.

  • Earth Advantage, in Portland, Ore., has been educating and advising the local Regional Multiple Listing Service (RMLS) in being the first in the nation to recognize and list green, energy efficient certified homes under their "Home Performance" measures.  This allows real estate professionals and home buyers to search specifically for certified homes under various green building programs. It launched the training program in June and by September more than 200 real estate professionals had completed the course.

  • Congratulations to the HBA of St. Louis and Eastern Missouri, where green builder member Matt Belcher and his new green development were featured in a front-page USA Today story on a new green development  Matt is building across the river in Illinois.

  • The 23 builder members of the Kenai Peninsula Builders Association in Alaska have added green building to the curriculum of a workforce development program the association has created in partnership with the local school district. The builders are working on a construction academy, the adult education component, as well.
