RESNET to Add NAHBGreen Verification to Product Offerings
An improved working relationship with the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) is expected to boost the number of NAHBGreen-certified homes by providing one-stop shopping to home builders already working with established energy-efficiency programs.
RESNET, a not-for-profit organization that also serves as a national standards-making body for energy-efficiency rating systems, is best known for its cadre of verifiers who certify homes in the federal voluntary Energy Star and Building America programs.
Now, the NAHB Research Center will train RESNET verifiers to be NAHBGreen verifiers, starting with an educational session planned for the RESNET annual conference in New Orleans on Tuesday, Feb 17.
The session will present an overview of the working relationship between RESNET and the Research Center to implement and grow National Green Building Certification across the United States while it provides the details of the verificaton process.
An additional session will assess and compare the criteria and verification processes for NAHBGreen and the LEED for Homes guide and rating system and also offer tips on how RESNET members can generate more business by adding green verification services to their portfolios.
Adding RESNET professionals to the growing number of NAHBGreen verifiers will be a great leap forward for National Green Building Certification, said Don Carr, who is the green program leader for the Research Center.
"This will swell the ranks of verifiers available to assist home builders and remodelers," he said.
